After establishing the estate in 2000, Andrea has turned it into one the region’s stars, as well as a global proponent of what can be achieved on volcanic soils. As he says, “It seemed crazy to restore vineyards so high up the mountain – above, it was erupting – but I liked that they were planted so high.”
"100% Nerello Mascalese, planted at 550m altitude. Lying on the edge of a lava flow, this tends to have a more rounded, ebullient style. The 2017 offers a seductive combination of savoury, volcanic minerals and pretty, very pure, sweetly-perfumed berry fruit. Floral and elegant, it wears red fruits proudly on its sleeve, focused and delightful. Wonderfully accessible, with hints of spice, this is lovely, through to a long, precise finish.
