Sandra Tavares da Silva and Jorge Serôdio Borges began their adventure in 2001.

Sandra Tavares and Jorge Serôdio Borges

Cristiano Van Zeller’s business partner and winemaker Sandra Tavares is married to consultant Jorge Serôdio Borges. Previously at Niepoort, he is the winemaker at Quinta de Passadouro as well as in other new Douro projects. Sandra, in addition to her work with Cristiano, which she began in 1999, is winemaker at her family‟s estate in Estramadura, north of Lisbon.

It was clearly just a matter of time before Jorge and Sandra laid some foundations of their own.

They bought an old port lodge in Vale de Mendiz, rebuilt the lagares and painstakingly selected grapes from the Pinhão Valley. Thus, in 2001, Wine & Soul was established, making its debut with the first vintage of Pintas, the flagship wine. In 2003, they bought the vineyard, tying their colours to the mast. This Pintas Character, their second wine, throws some light on their 'combined talent - impressive!'

The Vineyards

Sandra and Jorge’s first vineyard at just 2.5 hectares of very old vines consisting of 40 different grape varieties. Pinhão Valley is an exceptional location facing southwest at 400 meters of altitude.

Quinta da Manoella

Located in Vale do Pinhão, this historic property has belonged to the family for five generations. With a total of 60 hectares of land, only 20 hectares are vineyards, which are surrounded by a beautiful Mediterranean forest that creates a unique microclimate and environment.

Located in the highlands of Fermentões, this north-facing vineyard sits at 600 meters altitude. The white grape varieties of Viosinho, Gouveio and Arinto varieties are grown on schist soils, creating wines that are extremely fresh and aromatic, with excellent texture and volume.

This old vineyard is a field blend of Viosinho, Rabigato, Códega do Larinho and Gouveio varieties, located on the edge of the Douro Valley, on slopes facing north at 600 meters of altitude. The soils transition from schist to granite, producing wines with exceptional minerality, identity and sophistication.
