After more than 100 years, in 2014, a member of the Schönborn family once again took over the management of the winery, which is now located in Eltville/Hattenheim. Significant investments were made, and a new, young management team was brought on board. In June 2015, the completely redesigned wine shop opened its doors to the wine-loving public.
The Stockheimer Hof (today Geisenheim Castle) was acquired by Philipp Erwein von Schönborn in 1651. This was the heyday of the Schönborn family, who invested heavily in viticulture during this time and were able to significantly expand their vineyards in what is now the Rheingau.
The family's heyday between 1630 and 1800 also produced magnificent wines. A 1735 Johannisberger from the "Gräflich Schönborn'schen Eigenbau" (Graflich Schönborn's own vineyard) in the Rheingau was auctioned in 1987 for DM 53,000. This makes the 1735 the most expensive white wine from Germany. Upon recorking, the wine was tasted: it was golden yellow in color, clear and bright, with a slight sediment
