The Clos is the sum of several parts, all coming from within the stone walled vineyard. The monopole’s vineyard had been singled out by plots according to their sub soil and the age of the vines. In the winemaking, three base wines are vinified and aged separately. These three wines are then assembled to produce the Clos des Epeneaux. Each time I hear about how this wine is made, I can’t help but think about two famous Clos of the Cote de Nuits (Clos de Tart, Clos des Lambrays) which are made the same way. Cote de Beaune does have outstanding wines even if not elevated to Grand Cru level.
"The microclimate of the Clos took over during the growing season, to compensate the challenges sent by the weather. The harvest date was protracted to August to preserve the freshness because the ripeness was achieved. The wine is vibrant, warm, spicy. But the aromas are of red fruit, juicy and fresh. There is a hint of citrus which brings vivacity to the wine. This will age beautifully. "
