This is one of the most famous grape varieties in the wine world, an aromatic grape that ripens with good acidity and moderate tannin. Light red in colour. An early budding grape, susceptible to spring frosts and it ripens early, often harvested before autumn rains in Burgundy. It is a grape that is challenging to grow, that thrives in cool climates, and prefers limestone or marl soils. The characteristics consist of cherry & strawberry with secondary and tertitary aromas of earth, leather, violets, clove, cinnamon, sandalwood, smoke and truffles. These characteristics will change depending on the altitude, aspects & soils on where the grapes are grown and the different winery techniques. An amazing grape that produce a wide range of both elegant and powerful wines.
