Attractive from the colour, champagne gold if allowed to say so, it is a lively wine evocative of citrus and orchard fruits. Fine acidity balanced by the ripeness, it drinks easily. Juicy pear taste with the freshness of the green apple, it is not a one dimension and simple wine. This is the kind of aligoté which show the potential of the grape. A good buy to drink as soon as possible and see how it ages.

Coming from one small plot (48 ares) in lieu-dit Les Argillas, it is a small cuvee of 2,000+ bottles. It is red fruit driven, with crunchy cranberry notes. The tannins are soft, integrated even if the palate is slightly grippy. This is more a character given by the high limestone and clay component of the parcel. Enticing wine that I see myself drinking on a platter of cold cuts.

Floral, medium bodied, smoky, and ripe are the first impression. Then the wine opens and its about juiciness, red berries, with a good weight and tight structure. It is rather powerful for Volnay yet very ripe and round. Unusual and pleasant.

Deep ruby colour and dark fruit aromas. The wine is elegant, lush and lively. There is precision in the flavours, the tannins, the texture. A floral note adds elegance to a balanced wine with an underlining freshness. Ripe fruits dominate the palate. This is drinking well now but will be even better with a couple of years in bottle.

Auxey is a good village to find a medium bodied Pinot Noir with all the characteristics of an elegant and ethereal red Burgundy and ageing potential. Bordering St Romain to the west and Meursault/Monthelie to the east, it benefits of a cooler climate and higher altitude. Red fruited and sharp on the nose, it is chewy and ripe on the palate. There is a hint of leather and earth. The tannins are elegant and the finish long enough. Don’t walk away because it only has 9 premier cru sites!

It has an inner power that you don’t suspect from the pale ruby colour of the appearance and the ethereal nose. Floral notes, small berry aromas and citrus dominate first. Then the sharpness of the wine comes out, with a marked tension, a soft but persistent finish. Fremiets soil is quite shallow making wines lean yet complex, a mid-distance runner instead of a sprinter. Lots of appeal.
