After establishing the estate in 2000, Andrea has turned it into one the region’s stars, as well as a global proponent of what can be achieved on volcanic soils. As he says, “It seemed crazy to restore vineyards so high up the mountain – above, it was erupting – but I liked that they were planted so high.”
"100% Nerello Mascalese, sited at 650m altitude. Andrea tells us that this is Etna’s most sought-after contrada, recognised for its plush style. The 2017 has good colour, and reveals a heady nose combining fruit, flowers, meaty notes and salted minerals. The palate is plump and richlytextured, the tannins fruit-coated and fine. There is an abundance of fruit, complemented by strong espresso coffee notes, finishing with layers of fruit and dark chocolate - very fine in 2017.
