Pale onion skin colour. Summery aromas of strawberries and cool citrus. Ripe yet crunchy, precise raspberry fruit on the palate, sustained by fresh acidity. A pithy twist makes for a focused finish. An excellent alternative to Provence.

This cuvée is a blend of two plots: Ez Connardises and Les Peuillets. The vintage was simply too small to produce two different wines. There is a small percentage of whole cluster because this area is warmer thus allowing for sufficient ripeness to use some of the stems. The nose starts with smoky notes and evolves into crunchy red fruited aromas. Upbeat energy, with a fleshy generosity. Appealing wine.

100% Nerello Mascalese, planted at 550m altitude. A “fuller bodied and rounder style” according to Andrea, given that this lies on the edge of Etna‟s lava. This has a plump and friendly nose, driven by ripe raspberries, wonderfully accessible, with streaks of dark spice. The palate is altogether more serious, thanks to the firm tannins which grip you on the attack. The acidity is especially joyous in this wine, sustaining the sweet red berry flavours through to a long, focused finish. Those tannins call for a couple of years in bottle, but this will be excellent.

The celebrated Doctor vineyard produces wines which are richer than its Kabinett siblings yet with a more pronounced bite of acidic tension and a salty tang on the finish, which works brilliantly with the slaty minerality. The precise finish is rounded out by a lovely fleshy fruit residue coating the palate. Textbook high quality Kabinett, seriously good. The magnum format is not only practical but very beautiful

This, the highest of the domaine’s vineyards, just above the Clos des Varoilles, comprises one hectare of vines, with an average age of over 60 years. The soil is very shallow here – just 50cm – over a gravel and limestone bedrock, naturally low-yielding. As darkly-fruited as usual, this is redolent of winter berries and has a driving power, length and an elegant briny finish. 20% new oak in 2018.
