Muddy Water is a small family-owned wine estate on New Zealand's South Island near Canterbury.
Jane and Michael East established Muddy Water in 1993. Their winemaking philosophy is to run according to organic and now biodynamic principles: ‘the world according to Muddy Water should be a cleaner, purer place where wine isn't made to formula but grown and fermented to best reflect the vineyard and season'. They have a strong belief in maximising wine quality meanwhile maintaining long-term sustainability.
The Waipara wine region provides ideal grape-growing conditions with distinctive limestone soils and sunlight, yielding wines with intense flavours yet fine acidities.
